Contemporary pregnancy photography

This lovely maternity photograph got awarded a bronze in last month’s SWPP competition for pregnancy photography.

I’m delighted with this result but know it could be better.

Therefore, I took this image with me on a  recent one-to-one training session with top international photography trainer Martin Graham-Dunn.  After discussing several improvements that could occur before capturing the image in camera, Martin showed me a few ideas for enhancing the image in Photoshop.

I’m sure you’ll agree that the picture below is a greatly improved version with a better composition and more subtle atmosphere. However there wasn’t much that could be done to improve issues with lighting and posing.

Beautiful pregnancy photo reworked with a little Photoshop magic.

Things have moved on

Since taking on Martin’s advice the improvements gained through subtle lighting, posing and compositional changes is remarkable.

I’m sure you’ll agree my photography and photoshop skills have moved on considerably since I took this maternity photograph above.

Wow what a stunning image – we never did this for our first child but will defintley be trying to persuade my wife to do it for our second!

Thank you for your kind words Roger.

It would be a pleasure to welcome you both to my studio when she’s expecting your second. And of course to follow up with beautiful newborn baby photos. These are special moments in our lives and it’s to capture them in a way we can relive and cherish these moments in the future.
