Beauty Tips – How to look after your breast implants

As you know, silicone breast implants have been hitting the headlines over the last few days. PIP silicone breast implants are defective and likely to fail before their standard life expectancy. But the real point of concern is the industrial silicone used within the implant. Today France declared they’ll fund the removal of any PIP implant, whilst here in the UK we’re told it’s nothing to worry about.

I heard one doctor saying although the risk is thought to be low, it is worth having regular checks irrespective of the type of implant used.

Caring for your breast implants is about detecting ruptures.

If you have a saline implant, a rupture is detected through the reduction in your breast size. This will soon become obvious. And the good news is solution is harmless and is simply absorbed into your body.

If you have a silicone implant a rupture is not easy to detect because the silicone is not absorbed into your body. Silicone can be an irritant and there are concerns about cancer. Therefore in the case of a rupture it is important to have the implant removed. If the silicone doesn’t cause irritation there is no way you’ll know if the implant has ruptured. Not even your plastic surgeon will be able to detect a rupture by inspection alone.

According to www.implantinfo.com the only way to test silicone breast implants is to have MRI scans. They recommend that you have your implants tested after the first three years and then every two years. However, if you know you have a PIP implant – I heard one surgeon on the news recommend screening every six months.

The main concern with PIP implants is the use of industrial silicone, which is known to cause irritation. This could give an early sign of a rupture but should not substitute regular screening.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the annual commemoration of Saint Valentine celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after a Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine established in 496 AD. But it wasn’t until the middle ages before it became associated with romantic love. The first recorded association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer who wrote:

“For this is Saint Valentine’s Day,

when every bird cometh there to choose his mate.”

Today many celebrate Valentine’s Day with gift cards and a bouquet of flowers. And some are now turning to the growing phenomenon of boudoir photography as a romantic gift for their loved one.

Behind the scenes

The studio is now closed for photography sessions until the first week in January. This gives me a chance to continue, and hopefully finish, painting the doors in the studio loby. That’s equivalent to eight doors if I count both sides of the parlour doors leading into the make-up and changing area! I finished all the frames and one door now so quite a way to go yet :-)

I’ve invested in some new software that can add some unique affects that isn’t possible in Photoshop. Nik Silver EFEX Pro, which is the best product available for black and white conversions. And Nik Color EFEX Pro that has some excellent filters for final enhancements to images. There are already a few images in recent posts here using these software tools. Initial client reaction has been excellent.

When John from Basildon received his wall display photograph of his wife, he emailed me; “Just to let you know that we received the Canvas Wrap this afternoon and we are delighted with the Photo…. it is stunning… really pleased :-) ”.

Last month I mentioned that my printer, One Vision Imaging, asked to feature a few of my images in an album. They wanted to feature a boudoir album at the SWPP convention in January in London. I received my complimentary copy of the album yesterday and it looks fabulous!

You can see the album at my studio or at the convention if you’re in London. I’ll be at the convention on Sunday 15th January for some master classes to refine my skills further.
